President and CEO, PNC Capital Markets

Charlotte McLaughlin is responsible for setting the strategy and managing the execution of PNC Financial Services Group's capital markets business, including sales and trading, relationship management, investment banking and product development.

However, recently, McLaughlin's influence has grown considerably wider, as she has taken on oversight of all market-based activities within PNC's corporate and institutional bank, including risk management, strategy and execution.

Outside of PNC, McLaughlin is a prominent advocate for financial and investment literacy. She is a member of the board and executive committee of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association. In 2019 she was honored by the SIFMA Foundation for her contributions in inspiring young people to learn about and participate in the capital markets.

McLaughlin is also heavily invested in the development and mentorship of junior talent, especially newcomers to PNC. Under her mentoring program, senior team members are encouraged to regularly reach out and provide guidance to their younger colleagues, while incoming talent is equipped with the knowledge, priorities, and organizational connections that will best aid success.

For McLaughlin, having a well-structured mentorship program, where junior staff can be better trained in and exposed to capital markets culture, has become an imperative now that COVID-19 is pushing more employees into work-from-home arrangements. When COVID-19 struck, her team seamlessly continued operations remotely thanks to her division's technical infrastructure as well as a reliance on teamwork and trust.

"Employees came together as a team and chipped in like never before. I attribute this to the strength of our culture: Trust in one another sustained us through this crisis," she said.
