Natwest Veteran Hired by GTS, Prepaid Specialist

John P. McCabe, formerly senior vice president of National Westminster Bancorp's credit card division, has joined Global Telecommunication Solutions Inc. as president and chief operating officer.

GTS, a leading producer and marketer of prepaid telephone cards, is known for colorful cards sporting reproductions of cartoon characters and sports heroes.

Founded in 1992, GTS is an authorized licensee for Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League and the rock group Led Zeppelin, among others.

Under the direction of Mr. McCabe, GTS will expand its reach into the world of debit, looking to offer colleges and sporting arenas closed prepaid debit systems, where consumers will purchase food, gifts, books, or other items with a prepaid card.

Mr. McCabe said the company will also be looking into cobranding a credit card, offering consumers free long distance service for each dollar charged.

"I will be concentrating on the financial services side as well as running the company," said Mr. McCabe.

He said GTS has been discussing both the debit and cobranding options with several business partners.

"It's a very progressive marketing and distribution company with a lot of very interesting affinity relationships and licenses that we will be leveraging through the financial services and prepaid debit arena," he said.

Mr. McCabe's former employer moved its consumer credit division to Delaware on Feb. 6. Andrew Haste, president and chief executive of Natwest Bank (Delaware), who is in charge of commercial lending, will assume Mr. McCabe's former responsibilities as credit card chief.
