N.C. Bank Gets Customers' Attention with Cold Drinks, Hot Topics

Premier Commercial Bank in Greensboro, N.C., knows how to stand out — throw a party.

The $159 million-asset bank hosted an end-of-summer gathering at its corporate office Wednesday. More than 80 guests showed up, says Trang Trinh, an assistant branch manager.

"This was the first time that we really opened up the office to all of our clients," Trinh says. "We had a beach theme, a mini fajita bar and a band playing beach music."

Premier also served beer, wine and margaritas. "We found that the benefits of new business and referrals outweighed the cost of hosting the event," says Trinh, who did not disclose the costs of the party.

The bank has been promoting a number of events to distinguish itself from other financial institutions. Premier also hosts LunchU, a monthly series where professionals come in to discuss relevant business topics with bank clients, including the Affordable Care Act.

The summer party posed a bigger challenge for Premier: getting people to leave the two-hour event.

"A lot of people want us to make it an annual event," Trinh says.
