Bob Braswell is mad as hell, and he isn't going to take it anymore.
That's the underlying message of a letter Braswell, the president and chief executive of Carolina Bank Holdings (CLBH), sent Monday to city officials in Greensboro, N.C., where his $692 million-asset company is based.
Braswell resigned from Downtown Greensboro Inc., an organization designed to spur business activity in the city. It is embroiled in a testy confrontation with several local government officials, including the city's mayor, over its performance and funding.
"I have decided I do not want to be associated with a group that has to be held hostage by the city's funding," Braswell wrote in his letter, which was printed on Carolina Bank letterhead and
Braswell, who had been on Downtown Greensboro's board for six years, also accused two members of the city council, including the mayor, of "demeaning" the organization's president during a recent meeting. Greensboro's city council is also debating whether to strip Downtown Greensboro's funding.
"We don't have the time, we don't have the flexibility, nor does it appear as though we have the confidence of the city … to professionally and properly work through this situation in a professional and businesslike fashion," Braswell wrote.
