NCR Opens Georgia Manufacturing Plant

NCR Corp. is back in the manufacturing business.

The automated teller machine company said Thursday that it has opened a manufacturing plant in Columbus, Ga., as part of its new headquarters campus; it announced in June plans to move from Dayton, Ohio, and open a plant.

NCR began outsourcing its manufacturing in 2007 to Solectron Corp. in an effort to streamline its operations. But it said this year that it would reverse that decision and move into a single site that would house both production and management.

"As self-service ATM technology becomes more innovative and strategic to financial institutions, the ability to control manufacturing in key markets becomes a core and competitive advantage," Peter Dorsman, NCR's senior vice president of global operations, said in a press release.
