New York Community Bancorp Enlarges Board

New York Community Bancorp (NYCB) is enlarging its board.

The $44.6 billion-asset company said Monday it has named Lawrence Savarese a director.

Savarese served until his retirement last year as a partner with KPMG, where he was in the firm's financial services practice for 19 of his 34 years with the firm. He also served as a partner in both KPMG's advisory practice and global service center.

"Mr. Savarese's expertise in finance and risk management and his extensive experience as the senior independent auditor for some of the world's premier banking institutions — including ours — will serve both our company and our shareholders well," Joseph Ficalora, New York Community Bancorp's chief executive, said in a press release.

Savarese's appointment brings to 13 the number of directors on the company's board.
