Northern Trust Corp. of Chicago has become a member of the MoneyPass surcharge-free automated teller machine network operated by Elan Financial Services, a unit of U.S. Bancorp.
Elan announced the agreement Wednesday. Customers of MoneyPass members can use other member's ATMs at no cost.
The network currently has more than 15,000 machines, including about 100 from Northern Trust.
As more banks increase the fees they charge noncustomers who use their ATMs, such surcharge-free networks are become a more attractive option.
"Financial institutions continue to see the opportunity to increase cardholder loyalty and attract new customers by responding to the consumer demand for surcharge-free ATM access," Doug Miraglia, MoneyPass' president, said in a press release.
