On the Move

Ballard Spahr has picked up former Bank of America counsel Stanley Mabbitt for its consumer financial services and mortgage banking groups.

The firm said Thursday that Mabbitt, who spent the past six years as associate general counsel for B of A and Countrywide Home Loans, was joining the firm's Phoenix and Washington offices.

"Stan's presence in Phoenix adds significant depth to the team we have in that office and will greatly assist us in serving our clients in the West," Ballard Spahr chairman Mark Stewart said in a press release.

Before joining B of A, Mabbitt was a partner in two law firms in Phoenix and worked for eight years in private practice in D.C. He also served as a staff attorney at the Federal Reserve's Division of Consumer and Community Affairs in Washington.

His practice will focus primarily on compliance with state and federal laws, particularly mortgage rules, as well as the activities of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
