The software vendor Open Solutions Inc. on Monday officially announced the availability of a service that allows its financial institution clients, resellers and other partners to develop their own applications to augment the company's core processing system.

Participants that use Open Solutions' DNAcreator can load the programs they develop to its DNAappstore, where the applications can be given away for free or sold. Developers that charge for their programs share the revenue with Open Solutions, the creator keeping 70%.

"We have over a dozen certified developers on the site today," Louis Hernandez Jr., the chairman and chief executive of Open Solutions, said in an interview Monday. Hernandez added that about 70 applications have been made available on the DNAappstore so far.
