Organizers plan new bank in Georgia

A group in Athens, Ga., has filed documents to form a bank.

Organizers submitted an application with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. on March 18 to create Classic City Bank.

The group plans to raise $16 million to $20 million in initial capital.

C. William Hopper III is expected to serve as Classic City’s chairman and CEO. Hopper was a market president for State Bank Financial, which was sold last year to Cadence Bancorp.

Chadwick Hargrove, a former chief financial officer and chief operating officer at NBG Bancorp, would have the same posts at the proposed bank.

Thomas Scott, owner of a management office in Athens, would serve as Classic City’s vice chairman.
