The Senate Banking Committee plans to vote Tuesday on the nomination of Joseph Smith to be the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, the panel said Friday.
Smith, the commissioner of banks for North Carolina, was nominated by President Obama on Nov. 12 to succeed acting Director Edward DeMarco, who has held that seat since Sept. 1, 2009.
Smith went before the committee last week for his nomination hearing, where he pledged to lawmakers that he would be independent and rejected keeping Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in conservatorship in perpetuity.
