Panel Sets Hearing on Web Gambling

The House Financial Services Committee has planned a hearing for Friday on a bill offered by Chairman Barney Frank that would legalize controlled forms of Internet gambling.

Legislation enacted last year outlawed online gambling, but the Massachusetts Democrat's hearing is intended to examine how a system could be created that would incorporate consumer protections into a regulated online gambling market.

The witnesses scheduled to testify at the hearing include Jon Prideaux, the chief executive officer of Asterion Payments; Greg Hogan, a pastor; and Howard Lederer, a professional poker player who consults on poker industry software.
