PayByCash Assets Sold

PlaySpan Inc., which makes a commerce platform for online games, said it has purchased the alternative payment system PayByCash.

The PayByCash system includes a prepaid card, the Ultimate Game Card, that can be used to pay fees and make purchases within computer games. The system has handled "millions of transactions each year and" earned "the trust of millions of gamers," Karl Mehta, PlaySpan's founder and chief executive, said in a July 16 press release.

Players can buy the Ultimate Game Card in stores with cash as an alternative to using a credit card for in-game transactions. PlaySpan, of Santa Clara, Calif., said it would continue to offer PayByCash as an independent brand.
