Radian Makes Progress on Delinquencies

Radian Guaranty's delinquent loan inventory grew by 500 loans in December, but then fell by 1,000 units during January.

At yearend Radian had a delinquent inventory of 110,358 loans with 8,999 new notices of delinquency received from mortgage servicers.

Cures took 6,172 loans out of the inventory, while Radian paid claims (including those charged to a deductible or a captive reinsurance arrangement) on 1,486 loans. Rescissions and denials took another 838 loans out of inventory, leaving 110,861 at the end of the month.

The following month saw Radian receive 7,192 new notices of delinquency, offset by 6,138 cures, 1,118 loans with claims paid, and 994 loans where coverage was rescinded or denied.

In January 2011, Radian reported new notices of delinquency of 9,030, cures of 6,653, paid claims on 2,134 loans, and rescissions and denials on 324 loans, reducing the inventory by 81 loans for that month.

Meanwhile, in January Radian wrote $2 billion of new MI policies, a slight decline from the $2.3 billion written in December. Previously, the company said its fourth quarter NIW was $6.5 billion. Its January 2011 NIW was just $1.1 billion.
