Rate on 30-Year Mortgages Declines

Mortgage rates fell to fresh lows this week as the average rate on a 30-year home loan fell to 4.49% for the week that ended Aug. 5, from 4.54% a week earlier, according to a weekly survey released Thursday by Freddie Mac.

The 15-year rate hit a record low of 3.95%, down from 4% a week earlier. The five-year adjustable rate mortgage fell to 3.63%, from 3.76% a week earlier, its lowest level since Freddie began tracking it in 2005.
