Retiring COO Is Succeeded by Chief Retail Officer at Suffolk

Suffolk Bancorp in Riverhead, N.Y. has promoted Anita J. Nigrel to executive vice president and chief retail officer, a newly created position, effective Monday.

Nigrel has been with the $1.8 billion-asset bank for 25 years. Most recently, she was a senior vice president for retail banking, a position she held since 2003. She also ran branch operations for more than 10 years.

She will succeed Frank D. Filipo, who was the executive vice president and chief operating officer until his retirement on July 3.

Filipo served as executive vice president since 2003 and ran the retail banking division since 2001. He had been with the company for 17 years, running its branch system, expanding its deposit base and preserving its cost of funds.

The company has eliminated the COO title for the time being, a spokesperson for the bank said. Filipo's former responsibilities outside the retail branch system have been divided among several bank executives, including Nigrel.
