Singapore's UOB Bank Adds Mobile App to Its Card for Women

UOB Bank Ltd. has begun offering an application for Apple Inc.'s iPhone and Google Inc.'s Android smartphones called the Lady's Soulmate as part of the issuer's effort to revamp it Lady's credit card. The goal is to add 1 million cardholders by 2014 as part of the initiative, the Singapore-based bank said in a statement.

The card launched in Singapore in 1987 and comes in regular, solitaire and platinum versions. The bank so far has issued 500,000 Lady cards in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia.

The new service offering, already available in Singapore, will extend to Malaysia and Thailand in May. The bank also plans to launch the card in Indonesia next month, according to the statement.

The smartphone application informs cardholders about relevant shopping and dining offers within 1.2 miles of their current location and about discounts on certain insurance and investment plans and extensions on housing-loan tenures. The app also incorporates a cab-call feature that gives cardholders priority in securing taxis, an online shopping portal, travel services and a dedicated member hotline.

The bank plans to extend the application to support Research in Motion Inc.'s Blackberry smartphone and compatible Nokia Inc. devices starting next month, the bank notes in the statement.
