Skandia CD-ROM Pushes Annuities

American Skandia Life Assurance Corp. is distributing information on its variable-annuities products via CD-ROM to more than 4,800 brokers and salespeople, including bank brokers.

The insurance company introduced the interactive format to stir interest in its multimanager annuity products.

The CD-ROM augments American Skandia's Access software, also meant to inform brokers and their clients.

"Variable annuities are tough," a spokesman said. "It's not something that you're going to see sold directly, because they're difficult to understand."
