SunTrust Starts Fintech Business Line

SunTrust Banks in Atlanta said Tuesday that it has created a new line of business specializing in the payments and technology industry.

Eric Brewer, who had been head of treasury and payment solutions, will lead the specialty, which is part of the $191 billion-asset bank's commercial and business banking division.

"In banking today, you're either a disruptor or you're being disrupted. Consumers and businesses alike are leveraging the power of fintech, and SunTrust aims to be a strategic adviser to clients pioneering and investing in payments and technology," Beau Cummins, commercial and business banking executive at SunTrust, said in a press release.

SunTrust has promoted Michael Maza to head of treasury and payment solutions. Maza, who will report to wholesale banking executive Mark Chancy, joined the company in 2005 and most recently headed strategy and business services in the treasury and payment solutions division.
