Tech Bytes: Barnett Puts Brochure On World Wide Web

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Barnett Banks Inc. has begun publishing an on- line marketing brochure on the international web of computer networks known as the Internet.

The bank's new "storefront," published on the multimedia annex of the Internet known as the World Wide Web, is conceived as a low-cost way to reach millions of potential customers.

"The primary objective of the storefront on the World Wide Web is to provide information on our services to a much larger audience than we can access now," said Paul Lambert, director of interactive service at Barnett.

To get to Barnett's on-line information, Internet users will type http://www.barnett.com. Once connected with the storefront, the users can get information on a wide range of retail products, such as checking accounts, savings accounts, credit cards, mortgages, and investment products.

The listing also has information on corporate products, such as small- business loans.

Mr. Lambert said he envisions the Internet eventually allowing banks to provide more than just information.

"When the Internet matures, we will use it as another means of providing banking services," he said.
