SAN FRANCISCO -- Interlink Network, Visa's online debit program, reported 14.1 million transactions in July, a 36% increase over the 10.4 million processed in July 1993.
The number of operational issuers grew from 122 members to 400 members, a 228% increase, Interlink said, resulting from a high level of member activations.
At the same time, Interlink merchant locations have grown 114%, from 18,700 in 1993 to 40,000 today. Customers in the United States hold 28 million Interlink cards.
There are 120,000 on-line terminals that accept Interlink transactions, up from 61,000 in 1993, a 97% jump.
