The Malvern, Pa., vending machine payment company USA Technologies Inc. has agreed to purchase another 25,000 contactless card readers from Vivotech Inc. of Santa Clara, Calif.
USA Technologies, which has already installed 10,000 Vivotech readers in its vending machines, announced the latest purchase Tuesday.
The readers will be incorporated into USA Technologies' ePort payment system, which can accept standard magnetic stripe and contactless cards that use MasterCard Inc.'s PayPass format; 1,000 of USA Technologies' machines also take Discover Financial Services' Zip contactless cards.
George Jensen, USA Technologies' chairman and chief executive officer, said in a press release that the purchase was a response to "increasing demand from the vending industry for our contactless technology."
