Visa Profit Up 24% On Data, Spending

Helped by a rise in service and data-processing revenue and strong international transaction growth, Visa Inc. Thursday posted a fiscal second-quarter profit of $881 million, up 23.6% from a year earlier.

Its net operating revenue increased 14.8%, to $2.25 billion.

U.S. Visa debit card transactions for the quarter ended March 31, including PIN-based, Interlink purchases, totaled 7.3 billion, up 12.3%. Sales volume rose 13.1%, to $277 billion. Outside the U.S., debit transactions totaled 1.4 billion, up 16.7%. Sales were up 33.3%, to $68 billion. U.S. credit and charge card transaction volume totaled 2.3 billion, up 9.5% from a year earlier. Sales were up 9.3%, to $199 billion. Outside the U.S., credit and charge card volume was up 8.6%, to 3.8 billion. Sales totaled $317 billion, up 19.2%.
