Wachovia Corp. will resume direct responsibility for several human resources tasks that three years ago it outsourced to Hewitt Associates, the human resources consultant in Lincolnshire, Ill.
A Wachovia spokeswoman confirmed Friday a memorandum was sent to employees last week saying the Charlotte banking company had decided to end early a seven-year deal with Hewitt to manage payroll, benefits, and HR call center jobs for its 120,000 employees.
Hewitt was hired in 2005 as part of a plan to trim more than 100 in-house HR jobs and cut expenses. Hewitt told employees it had changed its HR strategy but did not say whether it did so as a result of dissatisfaction at Wachovia. The bank said it would handle some HR processes in-house and use vendors for other tasks, but details were still being worked out last week.
