Washington Trust In Rhode Island Hires J.F. Treanor As Its President

Washington Trust Bancorp in Westerly, R.I., has hired John F. Treanor to become president and chief operating officer on April 1.

He will succeed John C. Warren, who will remain chief executive officer and assume the title of chairman.

Mr. Treanor, a 30-year banking veteran, was executive vice president, chief operating officer, and chief financial officer of SIS Bancorp in Springfield, Mass. The $2 billion-asset company was bought by Portland, Maine-based Peoples Heritage Financial Group on Jan. 1. Before joining SIS, Mr. Treanor was executive vice president, treasurer, and CFO of Sterling Bancshares in Waltham, Mass. Earlier he worked for Shawmut National Corp.

Washington Trust Bancorp, the parent of Washington Trust Co., recently agreed to acquire $59.4 million-asset PierBank of South Kingstown, R.I. The deal is expected to close in the second half.
