Webster, NBA Star Sign Marketing Deal

Webster Financial Corp. in Bridgeport, Conn., is putting two basketball celebrities back on the same team.

The $17.8 billion-asset company said Monday that it had reached a marketing agreement with Boston Celtics star Ray Allen, who also played at the University of Connecticut. Webster has a similar marketing deal with Jim Calhoun, who coached Allen in college.

Allen is beloved in the region for his NBA and college careers, said Michelle Crecca, Webster's chief marketing officer. "Our new partnership with Ray Allen offers an incredibly unique way for Webster to strengthen and differentiate our brand from Boston through Connecticut," Crecca said in a press release.

Webster holds Allen's marketing and endorsement rights throughout New England and the New York market until August 2012.
