State Bank Financial Corp. has snagged a longtime banking attorney in Atlanta, James C. Wheeler, to be its executive vice president and general counsel.

Wheeler was chairman of the financial institutions practice at Morris, Manning & Martin LLP in Atlanta. He previously was a partner at Bryan Cave LLP, in the financial institutions practice.
Wheeler will be busy. He is joining one of the most aggressive acquirers in Georgia. The $2.8 billion-asset State Bank in Atlanta has acquired 10 banking subsidiaries since 2009 after raising $300 million of capital.
It announced Wheeler's hiring on Thursday.
