Big Boom, Small Results in ATM Heist

Thieves attempted to get cash out of an ATM by filling it with explosive gas and then detonating it. Though they caused massive damage to the machine and its surroundings, they did not get any cash.

The ATM was located in a pharmacy on Regent Street in Reservoir, Australia, The Age reported Wednesday. A pharmacy worker told the Australian paper that the damage to the ATM and to the store itself "looked like a little handgrenade" explosion.

The window closest to the now-shredded ATM was destroyed, spilling debris into the street, the article said. The thieves "caused a lot of damage for not a lot of result," the worker told the paper.
