A suspected card thief in Ohio was caught when he allegedly used a stolen card with his personal loyalty card to buy gas.

The suspect, Zachariah S. Grigsby, is a Sears cashier accused of using a customer's card to buy gas, The Newark Advocate reported Oct. 1. He also used his own Speedy Rewards card to earn points for the gas purchase.

If Grigsby is convicted, "he would be the second person in the area to have been caught through using a Speedy Rewards card," the article said. Randall A. Hoskinson was convicted after a 2007 gas station robbery. He was caught because he used his rewards card to buy gas just before the theft.

StorefrontBacktalk's Evan Schuman wrote in an Oct. 5 story that Grigsby, if guilty, should have known better than to use a loyalty card with a stolen credit card. "If there's one thing a Sears associate … should understand, it's how [customer relationship management technology] works," the article said.
