$13.8M Fine For Fraud Charges In Texas

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott announced Tuesday that a Houston business owner and his debt repair companies must pay $13.8 million for committing fraud against hundreds of Texans.

Robert M. Lindsey, Jubilee Financial Management LLC, The Credit Card Solution and Freedom from Debt Alliance failed to register with state authorities and falsely claimed that debts would be eliminated and their credit ratings would be restored by simply filing lawsuits. More than 700 people paid an average of $3,000 for fraudulent services including form letters.

Jurors found the companies and Lindsey violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act and the Texas Credit Services Act. Lindsey and TCCS violated the Texas Business Opportunity Act.
