Actor George Lopez The Latest Celebrity To Endorse A Prepaid Card Business

Comedian and actor George Lopez is the latest celebrity to become involved with the prepaid card business by endorsing Mango Financial Inc.

Lopez has signed a multiyear marketing partnership to promote the prepaid card company’s products, Mango announced Feb. 1. Mango’s prepaid card charges a $5 monthly fee, $2 per ATM withdrawal and 50 cents per ATM balance inquiry or mobile funds transfers, according to the company’s website.

Prepaid companies partner with celebrities either through cobranded products or endorsements (see story).  Lopez’s endorsement of Mango comes less than a month after personal finance guru Suze Orman introduced her Approved card in January (see story).

Music mogul Russell Simmons offers his own product called the RushCard. The Kardashian sisters, who are reality television stars, also had a short-lived card that was cancelled after an uproar over its high fees.

Lopez’s endorsement of Mango may help the company gain customers within the Hispanic population. Lopez has been named one of Time Magazine’s 25 Most Influential Hispanics in America, Mango noted in its press release.
