Adyen Integrates Bitcoin Acceptance for Online Game Company

Payment technology provider Adyen is establishing Bitcoin as a payment option for consumers playing online games from U.K.-based Jagex.

Jagex, creator of the adventure game RuneScape, is the first merchant to accept Bitcoin payments through Adyen's platform. Amsterdam-based Adyen integrates with the Atlanta-based Bitcoin processor BitPay to enable its customers to accept digital currency, Adyen stated in a Feb. 3 press release.

Adyen is in a good position to serve the growing number of merchants showing interest in Bitcoin payments, Roelant Prins, chief commercial officer at Adyen, stated in the release. Adyen has more than 250 payment methods and 187 transaction currencies it can offer to merchants, Prins added.

Adyen processes payments across online, mobile and physical point of sale terminals for more than 3,500 businesses and for brands such as Facebook, Aribnb, Spotify, Groupon and Booking.com, the company said.

Adyen closed 2014 with a $250 million funding round.
