Dubai International Airport plans to offer airline passengers entering Dubai in the United Arab Emirates a MasterCard-branded prepaid card to use to shop and pay for services and goods while at the airport and in the city, it announced Nov 2.
Dubai International launched the DXB Connect card, which is designed primarily for airport clientele, in collaboration with Dubai Duty Free.
Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank Ltd. will issue the card in conjunction with card-payments manager Jade Payments LLC and Dubai-based Global Processing Services, according to a statement by Dubai International.
Card transactions are denominated in Emirati Dirham, and card users receive discounts at Dubai Duty Free retail outlets, hotels, spas, dining outlets and family-entertainment venues across Dubai.
The card comes with a ready-to-use prepaid Etisalat mobile SIM card preloaded with a credit of 25 dirhams (US$6.8 or 4.9 euros).
Passengers may purchase DXB Connect cards for 95 dirhams at Dubai Duty Free outlets at the airport, where they also may reload the accounts with any amount for free, according to Dubai International. Additional reload sites are planned at all Virgin Megastores, UAE Exchange outlets, and through a dedicated DXB Connect website.
Passengers also may use the card at ATMs and to make purchases anywhere MasterCard is accepted. They also may cancel the card or block its use.
