Alliance Seeks Lab Partners To Test Terminal-Security Guidelines

The Secure POS Vendor Alliance, an Atlanta-based trade organization representing point-of-sale terminal makers, says it is forming the Lab Network, a collection of research labs that would work on shared security matters.

The trade group is recruiting research labs that would evaluate payment terminal security guidelines proffered by the organization, whose members include Hypercom Corp.,VeriFone Holdings Inc. and Ingenico S.A.

“We need labs to be a critical component of that,” Steven Hughes, the alliance’s president, tells PaymentsSource. In exchange for their research efforts, the labs would gain recognition for their work, he says.

Alliance member companies would choose the labs with which they would work, Hughes says. The association will not endorse labs, he says.

Participation in the Lab Network is for those entities conducting payments industry research, Hughes says. Formed less than a year ago, the association is starting this effort to increase the potential payment security research effort and provide services for its members, Hughes says.
