The partnership allows consumers in Chile to shop on Amazon.com and make payments with international and domestic credit cards, as well as interest-free installments and Amazon Prime Video subscriptions through Chilean pesos, Sebastian Kanovice, CEO of dLocal said in a Tuesday press release.
"Amazon has a long history of pioneering online innovation and bringing e-commerce to the rest of the world," Kanovich added.
San Francisco-based dLocal operates a payments technology platform that supports more than 300 local payment methods through one application identifier. The company says it seeks to bridge the gap between the needs of global online enterprises and the payments realities of emerging countries.
As such, dLocal operates as the local merchant of record on behalf of its clients, which speeds up the payment process and lowers operational costs.
The platform includes automated currency conversion, guaranteed fund returns for settlement in the U.S. or Europe, and the optimization of local payment operations and local advisory services.
The company says it focused on Chile through the Amazon arrangement because the country's payments infrastructure is fragmented and complex. Companies that enter these countries without the ability to accept locally relevant payment methods are often unintentionally limiting their reach and hindering their growth, dLocal stated.
