Amazon Payment Exec Matt Swann Departs for Citi: TechCrunch

Matt Swann, who was in charge of Amazon Register and the defunct Amazon Wallet, has left Amazon.com for a role at Citigroup, according to a report by TechCrunch.

Amazon shut down its mobile wallet app in January, before the app ever left the beta stage. The wallet, which Amazon never promoted, was criticized for its lack of payment options.

Amazon Local Register, which is designed to be a cheaper rival to Square Register, has also reportedly suffered from slow uptake.

Swann joined Citi in February as technology head of Global Cards and Payments, according to a Citi spokesperson. Swann first joined Amazon in 1999 as a director, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was also a director at Citadel Investment Group between 2004 and 2006, and was named vice president and general manager of payments at Amazon.com in 2006.

Amazon did not respond to a request for comment.
