Apple Watch Will Add Security Steps to Apple Pay

The upcoming Apple Watch, which does not have a built-in fingerprint reader for Touch ID authentication, will use a four-digit passcode to engage Apple Pay for mobile payments.

Details about how Apple Watch will operate were revealed through an unreleased Apple Watch app, according to the tech news site 9to5Mac.

A user can make Apple Pay payments through the Apple Watch only by entering the code after the watch is put on. If the passcode is changed or deleted, the user would have to re-enter all Apple Pay credit cards, the site reported.

Apple Watch owners have the option to automatically remove all data if someone tries incorrectly to enter a passcode 10 times.

The Apple Watch will have a built-in Near Field Communication chip to enable contactless payments. Most other smartwatches, including Pebble and Android Wear devices, do not have NFC.
