Audi taps Parkopedia for dashboard parking payment service

Audi is the latest to adopt a built-in service through a deal with Parkopedia, a London-based provider of dashboard services, to locate and pay for parking spots.

Parkopedia will provide Audi with a service enabling drivers around the world to locate the closest or cheapest available on-street and off-street parking, pay for it and navigate to it, according to a Wednesday press release.

The Parkopedia system will be available soon for existing and new vehicles in Europe, the Americas, Japan, Australasia, the Middle East and Africa, after a successful test of the service with Audi China, which began early this year, according to Parkopedia.

Parkopedia already supplies parking services to Ford, GM, Toyota, BMW and Apple, with detailed static information on 50 million parking spaces across 6,500 cities in 75 countries.

Dynamic parking solutions are expanding through systems built into cars and also via third-party mobile apps.

SAP is working with mobile parking app operators including Parking Panda to build parking-spot location and payment services into vehicles’ dashboards. Volkswagen Financial late last year purchased PayByPhone, a Canadian parking payments firm with a foothold in several major global cities.
