A mix-up related to the launch of an American Express credit card by an Australian retailer has resulted in customers receiving bills for cards for which they never applied. David Jones, the retailer, launched its AmEx-branded card in September (CardLine Global, 2 Oct.). The retailer organized a launch party last month, but some attendees who never applied for the card recently received bills for the card's AU$99 (US$68 or 50 euros) annual fee. "There was a small administrative error for less than 100 customers, which has been fully resolved already," Damian Eales, David Jones group general manager, financial services and marketing, tells CardLine Global. "These were customers who were invited but did not attend our launch event." Eales declines to say how many AmEx cards have gone to customers since the launch. The retailer has issued some 800,000 store cards, which David Jones has offered to exchange for the AmEx cards.
