Translink plans to give away 400,000 Go Cards to commuters in the Australian state of Queensland containing a free credit of AU$10 ($US9 or 7 euros) to encourage use of the transit card, the Brisbane-based transport operator said.
The Go Card is a contactless smart card-ticketing system operating in South East Queensland by the TransLink Transit Authority, which provides integrated public transport via rail, bus and ferry networks in the region. It launched in February 2008 in the city of Brisbane.

Translink is inviting riders to submit applications for the card by July 11, and it will provide the credited cards on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Go Card is available at select retail stores and train stations after riders deposit a refundable balance of AU$5. They may top up their card accounts using cash, payment card and online banking funds transfer.
