Bango, Telco Launch Carrier Billing in Africa via Google Play

Mobile payments company Bango and Telkom South Africa have joined forces to launch carrier billing through Google Play.

Telekom SA’s customers with Android devices now have access to Google’s app store through the universal payment method offered by the Bango Payment Platform.

“Telkom is striving to make our customers’ experience more streamlined and simple,” said Attila Vitai, mobile and consumer managing director at Telkom, in a September 2 news release. “This partnership with Bango provides Telkom customers with a seamless experience for purchasing apps from Google Play and charging them directly to their mobile phone bill or airtime."

The service allows Telekom customers with Android smartphones or tablets to purchase apps and other digital content through one-click carrier billing, which charges the cost to their phone bill or deducts it from their airtime.

Bango also has a carrier billing partnership with Samsung and has expanded its billing platform to digital merchants.
