Barclaycard, the credit card arm of Barclays Bank, has launched a mobile account-access service for its credit cardholders, the bank announced Monday. Cardholders can check their outstanding balances and some credit card statement and payment details by sending simple text messages to a Barclays server, according to a statement. The service is free to both existing and new credit card customers, though mobile carriers may charge their customers for any text messages they send and receive, Barclays added. "The current offering from Barclaycard, we believe, will add greater convenience to our customer's interactions with the bank," Ram Gopal, interim managing director of Barclays Bank in India, said in the statement. Barclays Bank has 900,000 banking and credit card customers in India, according to the bank. The bank did not respond to requests for comment by CardLine Global's deadline.
