Liquor-store chain Beverages and More! has installed VeriFone Systems Inc.’s VeriShield Protect encryption product, the terminal maker announced Jan. 10.

BevMo!, which operates 107 stores in the western U.S., finished the deployment of VeriShield and the VeriFone MX 860 card-acceptance systems at every one of its checkout lanes in 2010, according to San Jose, Calif.-based VeriFone.
VeriShield, which encrypts cardholder data the instant it is received, will help the retailer reduce its scope of PCI compliance, VeriFone says.
The deployment allowed BevMo! to avoid doing an expensive point-of-sale software upgrade, Dan Carter, the retailer’s chief financial officer, said in a press release.
