Blackhawk Launches Gift Card Displays At UK-Based Supermarket Chain

Tesco Bank, which is owned by supermarket chain Tesco PLC, has entered into an agreement to put Blackhawk Network’s Gift Card Mall displays in each of its 600 locations in the United Kingdom, the companies announced Dec. 22.

The deal follows Blackhawk’s announcement earlier this month to expand its digital content prepaid card offerings worldwide (see story).

The expansion “offers digital-content providers tremendous distribution opportunities,” Dan Dmochowski, Blackhawk’s international president, told PaymentsSource.

Tesco Gift Card Mall locations will offer digital content such as Facebook Credits and music from Apple Inc.’s iTunes. Blackhawk is the first provider to bring Facebook Credit prepaid cards to European brick-and-mortar locations, Dmochowski said.

Tesco Gift Card Mall locations also will offer gift cards from UK merchants such as multiplex cinema chain Cineworld Cinemas Ltd. and department-store chain Debenhams PLC.
