Bluefin will embed encryption through its QuickSwipe mobile point of sale system. The addition of encryption should protect cardholder data in the event of a breach by hackers.

Further securing mobile payments will combat "the perception of insecurity," and lower compliance burdens for merchants, Bluefin founder and chief innovation officer Ruston Miles said in a Feb. 24 press release.

Encryption is seen as a technology that can complement the use of EMV-chip cards at the point of sale, as well as reduced the scope of a company's compliance with the Payment Card Industry data security standard.
