Bank of America Corp., the nation's largest debit card issuer, has launched a promotion designed to increase the use of debit cards and online bill payment. As part of its promotion, new customers will receive $75 when they open a direct-deposit account with a minimum deposit of $250 and make one debit card purchase within 30 days, according to Tara Burke, a BofA spokesperson. Debit cardholders who also enroll in BofA's online-banking program and pay two bills online will receive an additional $25, Burke says. The Charlotte, N.C.-based bank also will pay $25 to existing customers who make two online bill payments if they had not used online bill pay for at least six months. "The enhanced offers help current and new customers make the most of their finances and save money in today's challenging environment," Burke notes. The promotion launched June 29 and runs through July 31.
