BofA Reports Increase In Debit-Card Purchase Volume

Bank of America today reported debit card purchase volume OF $51.1 billion in the first quarter ended March 31, up 2% compared with $50.1 billion in the same period year ago, the Charlotte, N.C.-based bank said. First-quarter debit card purchase volume, however, dropped 3.5% compared with the bank's fourth quarter 2008 volume of $52.9 billion, the bank reported. BofA is the nation's largest debit card issuer, according to ATM&Debit News' 2009 EFT Data Book. In 2007–the latest figures available–BofA issued 33,362,206 debit cards and controlled 16.6% of the nation's debit card market.
