Braintree Makes it Easier to Add PayPal to Merchant Apps

Braintree has launched a toolset for developers that integrates directly with PayPal, which acquired Braintree in 2013.

Called "v.zero SDK," the software development kit (SDK) adds PayPal support alongside Braintree's existing payment processing tools. This allows developers to add PayPal to web, mobile web and mobile apps without building a separate integration for PayPal.

"Supporting PayPal as a payment method in the Braintree Gateway has always been one of the most frequent requests from our customers," says Ben Mills and Tony Pitluga, Braintree developers, on Braintree's corporate blog. "The result is a redirect-free purchase experience that keeps customers on [the merchant's] site to streamline the transaction."

Braintree has also developed a user interface that merchants can use when building their checkout, including responsive design, auto detection of a card brand, and validation of the card number and expiration date.

The new SDK is an attempt to entice developers to add PayPal to e-commerce sites, a top priority for PayPal, which had seen its relationship with third party developers suffer.

Braintree enables PayPal to offer more tools to developers, and the eBay subsidiary has also hosted developer events, and offered incentives to developers. Braintree also provides technology for Facebook's developer program.
