Canara Bank is deploying electronic-ticket kiosks at Indian train-station ATMs to enable consumers to buy long-distance railway tickets on Mumbai's Central Railways line, a spokesperson for the India-based bank tells CardLine Global. The bank offers the service only to its own debit card customers but eventually hopes to offer the service to other issuers' cardholders. The railway first must approve such an expansion, the spokesperson says. So far, the bank offers the service at 15 ATMs of its approximately 2,000 ATMs, according to Canara's most recent financial report. India railway officials have encouraged a variety of banks to offer similar services.
