The news follows Apple's announcement on June 2 that it will open its TouchID fingerprint authentication technology to third-party developers this fall as part of the release of its iOS 8 operating system. Apple introduced TouchID last year as part of its iPhone 5s, which can use fingerprints to authenticate iTunes purchases.

The SwipeSimple upgrade will allow merchants to log in to their accounts by scanning a finger, rather than having to type a username and password.

CardFlight, which is based in New York, provides point of sale technology to businesses, including mobile card readers and business reporting software.
